What Not to do Playing Softball in the Outfield...or the Infield, for that Matter!

You may not be able to tell, but there's a nasty bruise up my forefinger and down into the palm of my right hand all because I thought it might be a good idea to try and catch a fly ball with my ungloved right hand instead of in the glove on my left hand! No, really, I didn't consciously think that it would be a great idea, but for some reason, my quick judgement was...a little off...and I misplaced the glove and the ball - WHAM - hit my right hand and instantly it was swollen and purple...I looked down at it and started to get woozy, I started seeing stars and almost fainted - some stomach I have! All this after, of course, I threw the ball to second! :) You'd think that a surgical tech who sees blood and guts on a daily basis could handle a little black and blue, but it's different when it's myself...and I can feel the pain associated with it! Or maybe since I've been out of the operating room for a few months I've gotten a little sissy...

Come to think of it - as of late, I have been making these silly subconscious decisions on the ballfield a little too often. Last Spring, Nic and I played softball in a city league with some friends from church and I was playing second base. I "thought" that it might work to stop a grounder - hit very hard - by sticking my left leg out. It definitely stopped the ball. It also, definitely gave be a little bone calcification that I get to keep forever. I'm wondering when it is that I'll need to call it quits! :) I think I'll have to be hurt a little more severely for it to get me down...

It's just to fun to give it up - besides, we won our first game this season last week! Hooray!
